Yes, I’m pretty crunchy…but this needs to be talked about.
That’s not to say I don’t use disposable diapers at all, they are extremely convenient and absorbent. I try to use them only for travel and nighttime, and even that weighs on me a little bit.
It was on his butt for 15 minutes, and now it’s going to sit in a landfill for 500 years.
500 years!!! And diapers are the 3rd largest contributor the the landfill…we’ve got a problem.
Yes, there’s a few brands of biodegradable diapers, they are expensive and don’t always catch all the pee.
And you may think you’re heading the right direction with some of the more eco friendly diapers, but they are still made of plastic just like huggies, they sit in the landfill just as long.
Yes, it takes a little more work to find the type of cloth diapers that work for you and fit your kid well. It takes a little trial and error to get a solid wash routine down.
It also saves you $1500/yr…which is honestly why I started cloth diapering, more than the environmental impact.
I’ve found a way that works for me, and plus the fluff bums are pretty cute.
